Although our crop timing is much different across the sea, I enjoyed the read and will keep checking in. It will be a few months before we have asparagus and I am very much looking forward to that treat.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7547194485070192892.post-70129043669807591252012-01-19T20:02:09.266+00:002012-01-19T20:02:09.266+00:00It depends also on the situation of your property ...It depends also on the situation of your property in relation to the nearest weather station. We have a river as one boundary which means that end of the property (which is also where the house and kitchen garden are situated) is cooler in winter than further up the hill. It is also a sun trap and is often hotter on summer afternoons. The nearest official weather station is at Castelo Branco, only about 10 miles away but much higher. CB has not had a frost this year, but we have been getting them for about 4 weeks, almost every night, with the lowest temperature being minus 3ºC.

A spin-off from keeping detailed records is that I know the average yearly temperature has increased very slightly year on year from 2008 to 2011. 2008 was 14.03ºC and 2011 was 15.90ºC.Old McDonaldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13652466079820493719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7547194485070192892.post-57342985763105045542012-01-19T13:00:11.122+00:002012-01-19T13:00:11.122+00:00Keeping records is an excellent idea but somehow I...Keeping records is an excellent idea but somehow I never get around to maintaining them. It helps you map out trends in weather changes, especially! I could always take the easy way out and just keep track of the max - min temperatures printed in the daily papers but I found that the temps in my land is always a few degrees cooler ... must be all those trees.Sunita Mohan https://www.blogger.com/profile/16395671437601246093noreply@blogger.com
